ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDER – VARSITY COLLEGE

Varsity College is a brand of the IIE (Independent Institute of Education) – the largest registered and accredited private provider of higher education in South Africa.

Varsity College offers full-time, part-time and short learning programmes in 6 schools, namely: School of Management, School of Finance and Accounting, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Information Technology, School of Education and the School of Law.

The College has 8 physical campuses throughout South Africa, including in: Cape Town, Sandton, Waterfall (Midrand), Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg, Durban North, Durban Westville, Nelson Mandela Bay. The College also offers online distance learning to students who prefer to study off-campus.
 

ABOUT THE VARSITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

Varsity College is inviting students to apply for their Scholarship Programme and Academic Bursary, for the 2025 academic year.

The Scholarship Programme and Academic Bursary consist of 3 categories:
1) Undergraduate Scholarships:
Excellence Scholarship and the Achiever Scholarship: for full time undergraduate contact learning at Varsity College, based on academic merit and financial circumstances. (View Varsity College undergraduate programmes here).

3) Distance Academic Bursaries:

Through their Scholarship Programme and Academic Bursary programmes, IIE Varsity College aims to provide quality private higher education, to students who may not otherwise be able to afford it.

MORE ABOUT THE VARSITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE

Excellence Scholarships will be awarded to the value of R55 000 per annum, and the Achiever Scholarships will be awarded to the value of between R35 000 and R50 000. Both scholarships will cover full-time contact learning, for the minimum duration of the qualification (between 3 and 4 years). Renewal of the award will be based on the student receiving satisfactory academic results each year, and completing the qualification in the minimum time frame.
 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE VARSITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
Excellence Scholarship:

  • You must be currently in Matric OR have completed Matric (or equivalent)
  • You must have achieved one of the following:
    • a minimum overall average of 75% in Grade 11 (or equivalent), if currently in Matric
    • a minimum overall average of 75% in Grade 12/ Matric (or equivalent), if completed Matric
    • a minimum result of 80% for 4 subjects (excluding Life Orientation)
  • You must intend on studying towards a 3 or 4 year full time contact learning qualification at a Varsity College campus
  • You must be entering your first year of undergraduate studies in 2025 and have not previously been registered with any Higher Education Institution
  • You must meet the minimum entry criteria for your chosen undergraduate qualification
  • Preference will be given to students whose household income is less than R400 000 per annum
  • You must have read and agreed to the Varsity College Scholarship T&C’s

Achiever Scholarship:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have achieved one of the following:
    • a minimum overall average of 60% in Grade 11 (or equivalent), if currently in Matric
    • a minimum overall average of 60% in Grade 12/ Matric (or equivalent), if completed Matric
  • You must have a total household income of less than R400 000 per year
  • You must intend on studying towards a 3 or 4 year full time contact learning qualification at a Varsity College campus
  • You must be entering your first year of undergraduate studies in 2025 and have not previously been registered with any Higher Education Institution
  • You must meet the minimum entry criteria for your chosen undergraduate qualification
  • You must have read and agreed to the Varsity College Scholarship T&C’s

Postgraduate Academic Bursary:

  • You must be in your final year of undergraduate study or have completed your undergraduate studies
  • You must have achieved an minimum overall average of 75% in your undergraduate programme, if already completed
  • You must intend on studying at a Varsity College campus
  • You must meet the minimum entry criteria for your chosen undergraduate qualification
  • You must have read and agreed to the Varsity College Scholarship T&C’s

Distance Postgraduate Academic Bursaries:

  • You must be in your final year of undergraduate study or have completed your undergraduate studies
  • You must have achieved an minimum overall average of 75% in your undergraduate programme, if already completed
  • You must intend on studying at a Varsity College campus
  • You must meet the minimum entry criteria for your chosen undergraduate qualification
  • You must have read and agreed to the Varsity College Scholarship T&C’s

Distance Undergraduate Academic Bursaries:

  • You must meet the minimum entry criteria for your chosen undergraduate qualification
  • You must intend on studying at a Varsity College campus
  • You must have read and agreed to the Varsity College Scholarship T&C’s

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE VARSITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must follow these steps to apply:
Step 1: First you will need to Apply to study at IIE Varsity College

Step 2: If applying for the Achiever Scholarship, complete the Motivational Letter (on this template) (this is not required for the other funding options)

Step 3: Apply for the Varsity College Scholarship 2025 (scroll down the page until you find the Undergraduate or Postgraduate option)

Step 4: Select the mode of delivery you would like to apply for (scroll down the page until you find the Contact or Distance option)

Step 5: Select the campus where you would like to apply (scroll down the page until you find the various locations)

Enter “www.zabursaries.co.za” in the field asking how you heard about the Varsity College Scholarship.

You may be required to upload clear copies of the following supporting documentation (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • Grade 11 final results and Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
  • Parents or guardians proof of household income (3 months recent bank statements/ most recent payslip or letter from the employer stating annual income/ copy of the most recent tax return/ affidavit if unemployed/ affidavit if single household income/ proof of sassa grant if applicable) (certified copy)
  • Parents or guardians bank statements showing monthly income for the last 3 months (certified copy)
  • Achiever Scholarship applicants: motivation letter (maximum 600 words) (see step 2 above)

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT THE VARSITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

  • Candidates are encouraged to complete a campus consultation/ appointment with a Student Advisor, before applying, as this will assist with the application process.
  • Students should only submit 1 application – they will be automatically considered for the category they qualify for.
  • Final selection for the Excellence Scholarship, will be based on latest school results.
  • Final selection for the Achiever Scholarship, will be based on school achievement and the motivational letter.
  • Students may apply for a maximum of 3 qualifications, and will be required to rank their selected qualifications in order of preference.
  • Successful candidates will be notified in writing by no later than 4 October 2024.
  • Recipients will be required to confirm their acceptance by no later than 1 November 2024, pay the pre-admission fee and complete the 2025 intake process.
