ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – ROTHSCHILD & CO FOUNDATION
Rothschild and Co is one of the world’s leading independent financial service groups. The company specializes in long-term investments, and offers their clients the safeguarding of assets, thus creating solutions that are innovative and encourage financial growth.
Rothschild & Co South Africa (established in 2012) believes that education is the driving force to addressing issues in South Africa (such as poverty, unemployment, inequality, and poverty alleviation.) With its aim to focus on supporting education, Rothschild & Co South Africa hones in on scholarships towards postgraduate studies and honors degrees, specializing in Commerce and Finance.
To date, 40 scholarships valued at R5.2 million have been awarded between 2013 and 2018. Owing to the successes of the scholarship awards and the growing popularity of the company, Rothschild and Co South Africa hopes to increase the number of scholarship awards to between 20 and 40 a year.
ABOUT THE ROTHSCHILD & CO FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
Rothschild & Co (South Africa) Foundation is inviting students to apply for their scholarship programme, for the 2024 academic year.
Scholarships will be awarded for Honours degree studies at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) or the University of Witwatersrand (Wits), within the following fields:
- Accounting Science (Honours or PGDA)
- Actuarial Science
- Business Science
- Computational and Applied Mathematics
- Data Analytics
- Econometrics
- Mathematical Science
Through this, the scholarship award hopes to aid underprivileged and deserving postgraduate students, to establishing a solid educational foundation for long-term employment. The scholarship also aims to equip the deserving candidates with the necessary resources needed to succeed within the South African financial service sector.

ABOUT THE ROTHSCHILD & CO FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED
The scholarship will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation, Meals, as well as an allowance and other student expenses. The total value of the scholarship will be based on the candidates financial need and other funding.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROTHSCHILD & CO FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must have completed Matric
- You must be a third-year student
- You must intend on studying towards an honours degree, in one of the fields of study listed above, in 2024
- You must be studying or intend on studying at the University of Johannesburg or the University of Witwatersrand
- You must be in financial need
- You must have passed all years of your undergraduate studies
- You must have passed your 2023 mid-year exams
- You must be involved or have participated in community work since being at university

- Details about yourself (age, gender, race, high school, hometown, province, and any relevant information relating to your family)
- Details about your undergraduate degree (what you have enjoyed about your studies, challenges you experienced both academically and in your career, and how you have overcome these those challenges)
- Why you chose your specific course and what you plan to do once you have completed your studies and accounting articles training
- How you funded your undergraduate degree and why you may require funding to pursue your honours course
- Details about community work you engaged in such as mentoring, tutoring etc. (Be sure to also include any leadership programmes you have even involved in)
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Full academic record (first to third year)
- 2023 mid year results
- An updated and brief Curriculum Vitae
- Proof of financial need
- Proof of involvement in community work during university studies
