ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – MIWAY

MiWay is a leading South African licensed non-life insurer and FSP. It offers its clients a broad range of non-life insurance products, namely household, motor, business, and homeowners insurance, as well as liability cover.

MiWay’s major shareholder is the blue-chip JSE-listed company, Santam. This partnership allows MiWay to have the necessary financial means and credibility to establish a brand identity that is unique to the market. This is further echoed by MiWay’s passion to deliver their customers with a five-star experience and service, viewing this as a necessity in maintaining a solid relationship.

The MiWay Actuarial department plays a vital role in the business, with this work being the basis of its insurance and service to its clients. The MiWay actuaries are responsible for working out premiums that are charged to clients, as well as the business’ claims reserve, and the capital needed to protect the business in uncertain circumstances.

MiWay’s actuaries not only complete traditional short-term insurance actuary work, but also involve themselves in many business case prediction models. Although the MiWay actuary department is a small team, this allows them to have the opportunity to be exposed to various avenues of the business by engaging with various shareholders (this ranges from senior management, to software developers and claims investigators.)
 

ABOUT THE MIWAY BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

MiWay is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2024 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for Actuarial Science studies (at Honours level).

MiWay is looking for talented and aspiring Actuaries in the making. Applicants who enjoy complex thinking and have a creative flair for finding solutions, are invited to apply.

This bursary opportunity aims to foster the next generation of professional actuaries by equipping them with the means to successfully complete their tertiary studies.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MIWAY BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

• You must studying towards an Actuarial Science qualification
• You must be currently in your 3rd year of study and intend on pursuing Honours degree studies in 2024
• You must be studying at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa

Candidates who meet all of the above criteria, can apply by submitting clear copies of the following documentation, to the email address below (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

• 2023 first semester results
• Updated Curriculum Vitae
• Any other relevant supporting documents

Note: there is no application form to be completed for this bursary application – students need only submit the list of above documents to apply.
