Africa Wetu Foundation (AWF) is committed to playing a major role in the African continent, by empowering the youth of the continent by providing them access to educational opportunities that enhance their skills and knowledge.

AWF’s mission is to increase the accessibility of education for young students by the means of effective mobilization of relationships, innovation, and resources. Their vision is to play a part in solving the problem we face of many under-skilled and uneducated youth. Their vision is to empower disadvantaged communities and allow them to have access to education and a future.

AWF also has a vision that each student on the continent should be properly and confidently prepared for their professional life after school, no matter what form of training they choose to embark on.
 

ABOUT THE AWF BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Africa Wetu Foundation is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2025 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the following fields, at selected institutions:

  • University of Cape Town (UCT): MSc in Computer Science/ Information Systems
  • University of the Western Cape (UWC): MSc in Computer Science/ Information Systems
  • Northlink College: Boilermaker (CBMT Phases 1–4) / Fitter & Turner – Occupational Program Boilermaker (CBMT Phases 1 – 4)

ABOUT THE AWF BURSARY PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED & SELECTION

The bursary will provide cover for tuition fees only.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a virtual interview. Successful candidates will be informed about their award status by 31 May 2025. If you do not receive any feedback, please regard your application as unsuccessful.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE AWF BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be under 30 years old
  • You must be pursuing a Master’s degree (full time) OR a Certificate of Competency – Vocational (full time), within one of the fields of study listed above, in 2025
  • You must be pursuing your qualification level for the first time
  • You must be studying at one of the institutions listed above
  • You must have proven financial need, as determined by household income
