City Power Johannesburg (SOC) Limited, established in 2001, is owned by the City of Johannesburg. The company aims to provide customers with universal access to electricity, supplying residents of one of the biggest metros in the continent, the City of Johannesburg.
City Power ensures the reliable delivery of electricity to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The company also focuses on infrastructure maintenance, upgrading of power systems, and addressing electricity theft while implementing sustainable energy initiatives to meet the growing demand and support the city’s economic growth.
ABOUT THE CITY POWER JOHANNESBURG BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
City Power Johannesburg (SOC) Limited is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2025 academic year.
Bursaries will be awarded to students residing within the City of Johannesburg service area (Gauteng), for studies within the following fields:
- Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current/ Light Current)
- Environmental Health Management
- Information Technology
- Risk Management

Bursaries will be awarded in a ratio of 70% to females and 30% to males.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 2 months of the closing date. If you do not receive any feedback within this time, please consider your application unsuccessful.
Shortlisted candidates will be subject to further checks, including authentication of qualifications, criminal record checks and reference checks. Awarding of the bursary will be subject to positive outcome of these checks. Candidates may also be required to undergo psychometric assessments.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CITY POWER JOHANNESBURG BURSARY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must reside within the City of Johannesburg service area, in Gauteng province
- You must have completed Matric with a minimum “C” symbol (60%) and must meet the admission requirements of the educational institution
- You must be studying or intend on studying towards an undergraduate qualification within one of the fields of study listed above
- You must be studying or intend on studying at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa (University, University of Technology or TVET College)
- You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60%, if currently studying
- Preference will be given to students pursuing studies at Universities or TVET Colleges in Gauteng, although students studying in other regions may also apply
