The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) drives economic efficiency by setting and maintaining national standards, promoting quality, and offering conformity assessment services.

The innobiz DUT Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, a non-profit entity of Durban University of Technology, nurtures entrepreneurial talent through education, business support, and innovation. Focused on students, local communities, and entrepreneurs in Durban and Midlands, it aims to develop confident, adaptive, and solution-driven business leaders.
 

ABOUT THE SABS BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), in partnership with innobiz DUT Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2025 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the following fields:

  • Commerce
  • Engineering
  • Information Technology / Computer Science
  • Science

MORE ABOUT THE SABS BURSARY PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED & SELECTION

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, books and accommodation, up to a maximum amount of R150 000 per year.

Successful applicants will be contacted within 4 weeks of the closing date. If you do not receive any feedback by this time, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Successful candidates will be required to sign an agreement with SABS.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SABS BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be under 25 years old
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full-time, towards a qualification within one of the fields of study listed above (preferably undergraduate studies)
  • You must be studying or enrolled/ accepted to study at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in your most recent studies (Matric final exams or tertiary final exams)
  • You must be in need of financial assistance and be unable to afford university studies without a bursary
  • Preference will be given to students with disabilities and students who meet affirmative action policies

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SABS BURSARY

Students who meet the above criteria, may apply by following these steps:

Step 1: Complete the online at: SABS Bursary Application 2025

Enter “www.zabursaries.co.za” in the field asking how you heard about the SABS bursary.
 

Step 2: Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation, via email to: bongani.mabunda@sabs.co.za
(Insert the words “SABS Bursary 2025” in the email subject line).

The submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified:

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if a 1st year student (certified copy)
  • 2024 academic record/ results, if currently studying (certified copy)
  • Acceptance letter from academic institution, for 2025
  • Parents or guardians ID documents (certified copies)
  • Parents or guardians proof of household income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ proof of pension or social grant if applicable) (certified copies, not older than 3 months)
