ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDERS – SGS
SGS is a leading inspection, testing, verification and certification company in South Africa, with offices and laboratories located across the country. Etablished in 1949, the company offer a complete range of systems and services certification, as well as training.
In 2016, SGS completed the acquisition of the Matrolab Group. SGS Matrolab is now a leading engineering and construction materials company serving consulting engineers, construction companies and public authorities.
ABOUT THE SGS BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
SGS-Matrolab is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2025 academic year.
3 bursaries will be awarded to students residing in Witbank, Emalahleni Local Municipality (Mpumalanga), for Undergraduate Degree or Diploma studies in Civil Engineering.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SGS BURSARY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must reside within the Witbank, Emalahleni Local Municipality, in Mpumalanga province
- You must have completed Matric
- You must be studying or intend on studying full-time or part-time, towards an Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering
- You must be entering your 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of study in 2025
- You must be studying or currently enrolled/ accepted to study at an accredited institution in South Africa
- You must have achieved a minimum academic average of 65%, if currently studying
- You must have a strong academic record
- You must have proven financial need
- You must NOT have a criminal record and must be willing to undergo a Police Clearance and/or criminal record check

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your online application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Proof of enrolment or acceptance at a tertiary institution
- Academic record/ transcripts, if currently studying
- Parents or guardians proof of household income (recent payslips if employed, bank financial statement or sworn affidavit if self-employed or unemployed)
- Personal statement, which should include details about your financial need, career goals, and how this bursary will help you achieve them
- Proof of residence
- Curriculum Vitae (maximum 3 pages)
