Ford Philanthropy was founded in 1949, as a not-for-profit organization funded and made possible by Ford Motor Company profits. As the global philanthropic arm of Ford, they co-create and invest in programs that build equity and apply mobility expertise to expand access to essential services, education for the future of work and entrepreneurship.

Ford Philanthropy provide grant funding to organisations and initiatives that support their philanthropic priorities in communities around the world where Ford operates.

The Gift of the Givers Foundation is the largest disaster response, non-governmental organisation of African origin on the African continent. Their 6 main focus areas include: Disaster Response, Hunger Alleviation, Water Provision, Healthcare, Education and Human Development
 

ABOUT THE FORD GOTG SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

Ford Philanthropy, partnered with Gift of the Givers, is inviting students to apply for their scholarship programme for the 2025 academic year.

Scholarships will be awarded to talented young individuals, from disadvantaged communities, for studies within the following fields:

  • Automotive, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering N4-N6
  • NCV Mechatronics L2/3/4

The scholarship will pave the way for careers within technical and engineering sectors, as well as apprenticeships in automotive and manufacturing sectors.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE FORD GOTG SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be from an under-resourced community
  • You must be currently in Matric (in 2024) or have completed Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying towards a qualification within one of the fields of study listed above
  • You must be studying or intend on studying at a TVET College in South Africa
  • You must NOT be receiving NSFAS funding

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE FORD GOTG SCHOLARSHIP

Students who meet the above criteria, may apply via email to: mandy.mncwabe@giftofthegivers.org
(Insert the following details in the email subject line: College Name & Course Name).

Note: there is no application form to be completed for this bursary application – students need only submit the list of documents below to apply.
 

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your email application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Latest school report, if currently in High School (stamped by the school)
  • Provisional acceptance letter from TVET College, if not yet studying
  • 2024 academic record, if currently studying (stamped by the college)
  • Proof of registration/ enrollment, if currently studying
  • Financial/ fee statement, if currently studying
  • Proof of residence (stamped by a traditional council or municipal councillor)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Motivational letter to support your bursary application (read our tips on how to write a motivational letter for your bursary application)
