ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – ABB EDUCATION TRUST

ABB’s Process Automation division delivers a diverse suite of innovative solutions tailored for process and hybrid industries. These offerings include industry-specific automation, electrification, digital technologies, control systems, advanced software, and measurement & analytics, along with specialized marine solutions.

Demonstrating its commitment to sustainability in South Africa, ABB actively supports local community initiatives and empowers students at various educational levels to pursue careers in engineering. The independently operated ABB Education Trust furthers this mission, functioning separately from the ABB Group without any affiliation, partnership, or agency relationship.
 

ABOUT THE ABB EDUCATION TRUST BURSARY – FIELDS COVERED

The ABB Education Trust is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2025 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded to Black Female students, preferably for Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Diploma studies, within the following fields:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ABB EDUCATION TRUST BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be a Black Female (Black as defined in the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act 46 of 2013, is a generic term which means African, Coloured and Indian)
  • You must be studying towards a qualification within one of the fields of study listed above
  • You must have completed your 1st year of study with a minimum overall average of 60%
  • You must be entering your 2nd or higher year of study in 2025
  • You must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
  • You must have a total household income LESS than R600 000 per annum
  • Black female students with disabilities are encouraged to apply

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE ABB EDUCATION TRUST BURSARY

Students who meet the above criteria, may apply via email to: ZA-ZA-EducationTrust@abb.com
(Insert the words “ABB Education Trust Bursary 2025” in the email subject line).

Note: there is no application form to be completed for this bursary application – students need only submit the list of documents below to apply.
 

Submit the following supporting documentation along with your email application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate
  • Full academic record/ transcripts
  • Proof of university registration for 2025 academic year
  • University fees statement for 2025 academic year
  • Proof of student accommodation and costs or proof of travel cost estimates if staying at home
  • Parents or guardians proof of household income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ proof of social grant or pension if applicable)
