ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – ASSMANG MANGANESE: BLACK ROCK MINE

Black Rock Mine Operations (BRMO) is part of the Manganese division of ASSMANG Pty Ltd. BRMO, located in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, is an underground manganese ore mine operations, which mines oxide and semi-carbonate ores.

As part of Assmang Limited, a joint venture between African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) and Assore Limited, the Black Rock Mine is recognized for its commitment to operational excellence, safety, and sustainability. With advanced mining technologies and a focus on workforce development, the operation plays a vital role in supporting South Africa’s mining industry and global manganese markets.
 

ABOUT THE ASSMANG BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

Assmang Manganese Division, Black Rock Mine Operations, is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2025 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the following fields:

  • Electrical Engineering: Heavy Current (Bachelor of Technology: Electrical Engineering / Advanced Diploma: Electrical Engineering / Bachelor of Science Engineering)
  • Environmental Management (Diploma / Bachelor of Environmental Management / Science
  • Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor of Technology: Mechanical Engineering / Advanced Diploma: Mechanical Engineering / Bachelor of Science Engineering)
  • Metallurgy (BSc or BTech Degree in Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering)
  • Mining Engineering (Bachelor of Technology: Mining Engineering / Advanced Diploma: Mining Engineering / Bachelor of Science: Mining Engineering)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ASSMANG BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be between 18 and 35 years old
  • You must have completed Matric with a Bachelor pass / University exemption in the final examinations
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full-time towards a qualification in one of the fields listed above, in 2025
  • You must be studying or have been accepted / provisionally accepted to study at an accredited University or University of Technology in South Africa
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average B-symbol and pass mark for all subjects, including final-year examination results, if currently studying
  • You must NOT be receiving any other bursary funding or financial aid from another institution
  • Preference is given to students from a disadvantaged background in the local communities within the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality and students living with disability
  • Preference is given to learners who have University acceptance for the 2025 academic year
