South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) Bursary 2021 – 2022

 

ABOUT THE COMPANY – SAIEE

The South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE), founded in 1909, is a non-profit and professional association which represents electronic and electrical engineers, technologists and technicians within Southern Africa. The organisation is comprised on 4 sections which cover each aspect of electrical engineering, including Electronics and Software; Power; Rotating Machines and Historical.

Over a century later and SAIEE has around 6000 members who professionally engage in engineering activities, including manufacturing; electronics; academic research; mining; telecommunications; power infra-structural services and measurement and control.

The SAIEE also administers university bursaries and scholarships within the electrical and electronic engineering sector of South Africa, as well as marketing and outreach activities which promotes engineering and encourages students to enter the field.
 

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

SAIEE will be awarding bursaries to students, within one of the following fields (Undergraduate diploma/ degree):

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Computer Engineering

 

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION

The SAIEE bursary must be used to cover the cost of tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, accommodation or living expenses.

Bursaries are awarded for one year at a time and students must reapply for funding each year. Further funding is not guaranteed, but is based on the availability of funds and academic performance.

There is no work back obligations/ service contract, bursary recipients must be ambassadors for the SAIEE.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview at the SAIEE offices in Johannesburg or via video conference.
 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen OR South African permanent resident
  • Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
  • Been accepted to study within one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Been accepted to study at a South African University/ University of Technology
  • Achieved a minimum result of 70% for Mathematics and Physical Science and 65% for English, if completed Matric
  • Achieved a minimum result of 60% for all modules completed, if currently studying
  • Preference will be given to female students with good academic results and proven financial need
  • If in receipt of another bursary, the combined total bursary amount must not be more than R150 000 per year

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate (certified copy) (to be submitted by 28 February)
  • Proof of acceptance to study at University/ University of Technology in 2020
  • University academic record, if currently studying (certified copy) (to be submitted by 28 February)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed)
  • Declaration of any other bursary funding received
